Remarks regarding the Commission’s Rule of Law Report
The Hungarian Helsinki Committee contributed both in 2020 and this year to the European Commission’s annual Rule of Law Report, in collaboration with other Hungarian NGOs.
The annual Rule of Law Report is an important tool in the EU’s rule of law toolbox, but in our view, there is much room for improvement. We summarized our concerns and suggestions in a short paper, which covers the following areas:
- the process;
- the stakeholder consultation questionnaire;
- the 2020 Country Chapter on the rule of law situation in Hungary; and
- the potential follow-up to the Rule of Law Report.
